Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they’re not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying
She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day
Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don’t see what I see
But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say
When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
Her lips, her lips
I could kiss them all day if she’d let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy
She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day
Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you’re searching for
Then just stay the same
So don’t even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say
When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
The way you are
The way you are
Girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

Avril Lavigne – What The Hell

You say that I’m messing with your head
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
All ’cause I was making out with your friend
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Love hurts, whether it’s right or wrong
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I can’t stop ’cause I’m having too much fun
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
You’re on your knees,
beggin’ please
‘stay with me’
But honestly,
I just need to be a little crazy
All my life I’ve been good but now,
I’m thinking ‘What the hell’
All I want is to mess around,
and I don’t really care about
If you love me, if you hate me,
you can’t save me, baby, baby
All my life I’ve been good but now,
whoa ‘What the hell’
What,
What,
What,
What the hell
So what if I go out on a million dates
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
You never call or listen to me anyway
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I’d rather rage than sit around and wait all day
(yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Don’t get me wrong,
I just need some time to play (yeah)

DEPARTURE (Yojiro Takita)

This film mixed its storyline and film techniques very well. The picture of Daigo when he was playing his cello in a broad view of mountain is the best I like. This scene was shot from a high angle and in 360 degree. Daigo was playing his cello and the shot of his surrounding was so beautiful. A landscape of snow-covered-mountain. A cinematographic technique of this movie I noticed was used in almost all the scenes was the deep focus.
Music in this film was important part. Some of the classical songs chosen gave the scene more emotion and brought back memories for Daigo. A scene in the office, when Daigo was playing his cello in celebration of Christmas, proved that music wasn’t just music. There were some close-up shots of Daigo, Uemura, and Sasaki. They were together in the room, but once Daigo started playing his cello, everybody were having their own thought on their mind.
A scene of Daigo’s childhood when he was with his father and mother, was shown for several times. In the first and second time, face of Daigo’s father wasn’t shown clearly. Then in the last scene of the film, when Daigo finished the make up on his father, those scenes were inserted but what different was the clear shot of Daigo’s father. It was a time when Daigo finally confessing his love to his dad implicitly.
DEATH BY HANGING (Nagisha Oshima)

Watching this film until a half way, made me realized that this wasn’t an ordinary film. The film director set up every scene very carefully to show something to the audiences. At that time what’s on my mind was there might be something happening between Japan, Korea, USA, and some other countries. I mentioned this because they were represented in this film by their flags – in form of shadows and small sizes hanged over the restaurant. Nagisa Oshima in this film showed (almost) clearly about some ideas owned by some different perspectives. Not in very implicit way, but almost explicit I think.
From browsing some film reviews, I found out that this film was made based on a true story. I think Oshima wanted to voice his idea about discrimination faced by Koreans. It was like Koreans fight Japan by doing crimes such murder to the Japanese.
This film presented dark comedy also in its story. First I was entertained but finally all the jokes became so serious. The Death by Hanging story plot was a bit hard to follow I think, because the continuity of every scenes sometimes suddenly came and surprised me, the next scene sometimes (look-alike) no relation with the previous scene.
Honestly, I’m still curious with the ending of this film. A scene where R and R’s sister were rolling to the river, I couldn’t understand it. Was it a conclusion or something audiences must think further? Second, by presenting so many characters in this movie, who was sounding their own perspectives, what message was Oshima trying to sent? Was it kind of public discussion relating to the politic situation between Korea and Japan at that time?
AFTER LIFE (Hirokazu Koreeda)

This film showed the way humans recall their memories and then choose the best one. Many scenes in this film showed the interview process run by the counselors. In the early scene, Hirokazu Koreeda set an interesting scene. Each person entering Limbo. Passed through a bright light first. An image of the transition from human life to after life.
I noticed something interesting when a counselor was interviewing an old lady who paid so much attention about plants. First when the camera shot the lady, there’s her hat on the table. The camera only shot half of the hat. But, in the next day, the hat appeared more and more, although still not completely shot until the end of interview. I think this meant that the old lady couldn’t focus her mind on the interview. Some parts of her mind were still going somewhere else.
The process of memory reconstruction was run so professionally. Each person was treated well in every detail. From the way they are interviewed until the final phase, watching the memory reconstructed and then disappearing. So I think they are united as a solid production house crew.
One thing I couldn’t understand in it, was when Shiori went to a crowd of people in a city. I am thinking whether Shiori walking through real human-crowd or she’s walking through the same world -so everybody’s there was also ghosts.
HANABI (Takeshi Kitano)

Hanabi was a film with so many scenes of violence inside. That’s my first impression when I was watching this film for the first 30 minutes. Hanabi was about a story of a detective who was having some problems related to his friend, his work, and his family. Nishi, as the main character, finally ended all of his problems by suicide.
This film didn’t use narrative form in its plot. Sometimes flashback scenes were shown suddenly. Audiences had to re-arrange scenes were shown in order to understand the story. Kitano set many scenes which had implicit meaning. For example, the shot of paintings which weremade by a friend of the main character. Some paintings reflected a family consisting of a father, a mother, and a child in different backgrounds. I think it could be an imagery of Nishi’s family or the artist’s family.
Technically, Kitano sets close-up framing for some scenes, sometimes he set it to shot a bloody-face. He also uses high angle in some scenes, for example, a scene in the yakuza’s office. Zooming-out was also used in a shot of a painting. When the main character was in a bar, there was a scene where first a Chinese painting was shown then suddenly the main character was shown right in front of it. Was it a reflection of the main character’s personality? In particular scenes, Kitano shot some flowers and how they were painted. So many flowers were shot and I wasn’t really sure of its meaning. Is there any relation between flowers and Hanabi’s story?
SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY (Shunji Iwai)

Swallowtail Butterfly presented an image of a city in Japan where so many foreigners living there. They are immigrants coming from so many countries such as Brazil, China, etc. Ageha as the main character, is a young girl who is going through a life transition. From a nameless girl, she’s becoming a woman with a strong character. The metaphor would be from caterpillar, then becoming butterfly.
An impressive portrait of Ageha in this film I think, was when Ageha went to a doctor and asking him to make a butterfly tattoo on her chest. The lighting set at that time to her face when she’s laying on the bed, a portrays of Ageha as someone who has a bright-side and dark-side in her life.
I found something interesting in one scene of this film. Some kids made a hole in every piece of Yen and watched around through the hole (as shown in the DVD cover). I think it shows that people at that time saw everything from a materialist perspective, money was everything.

This afternoon a friend of mine, Vita, wanted to buy new eyeglasses. First she’s looking for it at Solaria Stage and didn’t find the one she’s looking for. Then we’re moving to Canal City. On its 3rd floor, finally she found the one she’s looking for. She found her fave’s one at Zoff, a store of eyeglasses. After deciding which one she wanted to buy and filling the form, then she got to check her eyes. A store-attendant (Japanese man, approx. 25 years old, handsome, charming…^^) was helping her to pass the ‘test’.
Ssst…I was a paparazzi. I took some photos during the ‘test’. The store-attendant realized that I was taking picture of them and you know what, he even made a ‘peace-pose’ but unfortunately I missed to shoot that moment. He did it so fast.
Hahaha. Anyway, it seemed like real Japanese language test for Vita. Because romaji letters were not provided, Vita (unfortunately) had to read many hiragana letters.
Thank God she could finish the ‘test’..! Well done! You got A+, Vita-chan..!

Since my first semester in Japan, I am wondering why many people don’t like natto. Natto is fermented-soy bean which is popular in Eastern part of Japan. It is sticky and my friends said that its smell is bad.
Well, anyway, finally (after 7 months living in Japan) I decided to buy natto in supermarket located in Hakozaki. I was so curious in it. I said to my friend (she’s a natto lover), if I didn’t like it, I’ll give the rest of my natto to her and she agreed. ;D
This is my first natto after I mixed it with soy-sauce.
Well, It was really sticky.
RESULT >>> It’s delicious! I could eat it!
Hahaha…
My roommate said that many Japanese people don’t like this food because its smell’s bad. But anyway, I have no problem with it.
A good news told by my friend, consuming natto could make our skin healthy. In fact, based on some articles I read, it has cholesterol-lowering effect and many other benefits.
FYI, natto also contributes to Japanese longevity..! Read this: http://www.jafra.gr.jp/eng/sumi.html

Today, 10th of May 2011, is the birthday of my roommate, Haruna. Since today, she’s 19 years old.
Ayano and Kiko were hiding the birthday cake in a friend’s room living next to our room. When Haruna was in her room, they took the cake, and turned off the lamp. We called Haruna and then we sang the birthday song to celebrate the birthday of her.
Since I’m living in the new dormitory, this is my second time celebrating birthday of my roommates. First was Ayano’s, and today, the second one, is Haruna’s. I’m wishing the best for Haruna, may happiness will always be with her.
